He served as the head football coach at California State University, Northridge from 1995 to 1996 and at San Jose State University from 1997 to 2000. Baldwin was also the interim head football coach at Colorado State University for 2014 Las Vegas Bowl.

He overcame an arm injury and a low batting average to pitch for six teams in the majors, including the Senators, Brewers and White Sox. He was a submarine pitcher who threw a side-arm curveball and a submarine fastball.
