The song gained popularity in 1960, but it took a while before it became a holiday classic. According to legend, Monte was inspired to write the song during a family vacation in Italy.
It was from the 1962 album 'Pepino, the Italian Mouse & Other Italian Fun Songs' (on the album was a covered version of Tennessee Ernie Ford's #1 hit, "Sixteen Tons") R.I.P.
