Ray Willis Nance (December 10, 1913 – January 28, 1976) [1] was an American jazz trumpeter, violinist and singer. He is best remembered for his long association with Duke Ellington and his orchestra. Early years. Nance was born in Chicago on December 10, 1913. He studied piano and violin as a child.

Duke Ellington And His Orchestra recorded this album in Chicago, IL on 7 & 8 February 1956 for the Bethlehem label. Ray Nance has vocals on I Can't Get Started, Jimmy Grissom sings on Everything But You. The Polydor reissues have slightly more adventurous titles, as well as the track listing changed.

Nance begann 1932 als Musiker zu arbeiten. Er leitete bis 1937 eine eigene Gruppe in Chicago, spielte dann bei Earl Hines (1938) und Horace Henderson (1939). Von 1940 bis 1963 spielte er mit der Band von Duke Ellington, nachdem er Cootie Williams als Trompeter in Ellingtons Orchester ersetzt hatte.
