King William IV granted royal assent to the Act on 4 July 1832, and granted the university a royal charter on 1 June 1837, incorporating it and confirming its constitution. [1] The university awarded its first degrees on 8 June 1837.

I set Tuesday as the day to go to Durham because rain was predicted and I thought a cathedral would be a better place to spend a rainy morning than tromping around Berwick on the city walls. My interest in Durham cathedral began with Bill Bryson and was encouraged by Sue.

Jahrhundert in gotischem Stil umgebaut und erweitert. Gemauert ist dieser Kirchenbau aus Sandstein, an verborgenen Stellen der älteren Teile auch Tuffstein.
