1. Sept. 1998 · Earthlings?' self-titled debut features guest appearances from Dave Grohl, Victoria Williams, and Tricky cohort Martina, among others; it's an interesting combination of desert-scorched rock with progressive atmospherics and an obsession with science fiction.
Auf der Earthlings?-Platte sind dann auch neben Stahl, Catching und Drake unter anderem Dave Grohl, Victoria Williams, Scott Reeder und eine ganze Reihe anderer als Ausführende notiert. So entstanden über einen längeren Zeitraum zahlreiche Aufnahmen.
Zu hören ist er unter anderem auf den beiden Alben Human Beans und Earthlings? der Band Earthlings? des ehemaligen Scream-Sängers Pete Stahl, die bei dem Label Crippled Dick Hot Wax! veröffentlicht wurden, sowie „Doll Revolution“ von den Bangles und David Bowies „Heathen“.
Early on, Scream also featured Nirvana drummer and Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl on drums who credited Pete Stahl as the inspiration for the song "My Hero" for his tutelage. Stahl later went on to form Wool with his brother in the 1990s, and also has sung for Goatsnake and Earthlings?.

Die erste vermeintliche Illusion hatte ich schon beim Lesen des Line-Ups. Geigen hier doch ein Mitglied der Queens Of The Stone Age und als Gast Dave Grohl (!) mit, so hatte ich schon die Schlaghosen und die Birkenstorck-Schlappen zurechtgelegt, um ordentlich abzugrooven. Doch nix da mit Stone-Rock.
Man kann sich die EARTHLINGS? aber auch als MONSTER MAGNET mit chronischer Verstopfung vorstellen. Insofern sind wirkliche Höhepunkte rar gesät, aber auch die meditative, hypnotische Grundstimmung wirkt insgesamt etwas bemüht.
