25. Apr. 2024 · Since its release in 1958, Summertime Blues by Eddie Cochran has been a ubiquitous hit, played on radio stations around the world and covered by an array of musicians. Cochran’s driving guitar riff and timeless lyrics imbue the song with a universal appeal that has transcended generations.
Vor 4 Tagen · Cochran was 19 when he recorded Summertime Blues. It was a big hit with his teenage fans, who could relate to the lyrics about being held back by society (and parents). Cochran got an image as a rebel with a guitar, and his legend was secured when he died two years later while riding in the back of a taxi. He was often compared to James Dean, who was 24 when he died in a car accident.
17. Apr. 2024 · April 17. 1960. A freak traffic accident claims the life Eddie Cochran when the taxi he was riding blew a tire and hit a lamp post. Best known for “Summertime Blues” and “C’mon Everybody”, Cochran was just 21. Gene Vincent and Cochran’s fiancee, Sharon Sheeley, survived the crash.
