Offscreen, Norris was as self-assured as his screen characters were put-upon; he was married five times, and three of his wives (Lona Andre, Ann Sheridan and Sheila Ryan) were Hollywood co-workers. Edward Norris quit movies cold in 1955 to become a businessman, never looking backward at his long career nor harboring any regrets at abandoning it.
Norris debuted in Queen Christina (1933), then he contracted with MGM, who trained him to start performing romantic roles. He is best known for Decoy (1946), Man with Two Lives (1942), Jungle Queen (1945), and End of the Road (1944). He died in Fort Bragg, California, USA, on December 18, 2002.
