Elite Hotel was Harris' second album to be released in 1975, preceded by the widely acclaimed Pieces of the Sky. Elite Hotel surpassed it on the Billboard charts, becoming Harris' first number one country album.

Collaboratively, Harris reunited with Dolly Parton and Linda Ronstadt for the 1999 gold-selling album Trio II. Harris and Ronstadt collaborated separately the same year on Western Wall: The Tucson Sessions. Both releases reached top ten Billboard country positions. In 2006, Harris joined Mark Knopfler for All the Roadrunning.
