Elmore Brooks (27 January 1918 – May 24, 1963) performed with the stage name Elmore James and was an American blues guitarist and singer. He’s best known for his slide guitar work.

On July 24, 1943, Elmore James found himself drafted. His military service took him to Guam in the West Pacific as a member of the US Naval Reserve. On November 28, 1945, two months after the end of the Second World War, he was honourably discharged, and headed straight back to Belzoni.
