The concerts, two on the same evening, were organised by Pete Townshend of the Who and marked a comeback by Clapton after two years of inactivity, broken only by his performance at the Concert for Bangladesh in August 1971. Along with Townshend, the musicians supporting Clapton include Steve Winwood, Ronnie Wood and Jim Capaldi.

They reunited at the 2007 Crossroads Guitar Festival in Chicago, IL, as well as for several shows in February 2008 at Madison Square Garden in New York City, NY.

13. Jan. 2023 · Following stage rehearsals at Guildford Civic Hall, Clapton’s comeback took place at the Rainbow in North London, where the guitarist played two sets on the same day, with a band that included Townshend, Winwood, Wood, bassist Ric Grech and drummer Jim Capaldi.

The set list as showcased on the 1995 remastered edition of Eric Clapton’s Rainbow Concert features songs from Derek & the Dominos, Blind Faith, Cream and Clapton’s self-titled 1970 solo album. The set also includes an early Traffic song, “Pearly Queen” with a lead vocal by Winwood.
