Ernest McFarland was a Democratic senator from Arizona who served as the Senate majority leader from 1951 to 1953. He introduced the Servicemen's Readjustment Act of 1944, also known as the GI Bill, to help veterans returning to civilian life. He also worked on state and federal issues, such as irrigation, communications, and Indian affairs.
