Ernest Alfred Stautner (April 20, 1925 – February 16, 2006) was a German-American professional football player and coach. He played as a defensive tackle in the National Football League (NFL) for the Pittsburgh Steelers. He also served as a coach for the Steelers, Washington Redskins and Dallas Cowboys.
Ernie Stautner was a defensive tackle for the Pittsburgh Steelers from 1950 to 1963. He was a nine-time All-NFL selection, a nine-time Pro Bowler, and a record-holder for safeties and fumble recoveries.
Ernie Stautner was the first Steelers player to be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame and the first to have his number retired. He played 14 seasons, won nine Pro Bowls and was named the NFL's Best Lineman in 1957.
