Shona Laing (born 9 October 1955) is a New Zealand musician. Laing had several folk hits in her native country and in the 80's became internationally popular for her alternative music, most notably "(Glad I'm) Not a Kennedy" and "Soviet Snow" which was based on the Chernobyl disaster.

Shona Laing (* 9. Oktober 1955) ist eine neuseeländische Sängerin . Shona Laing wirkte 1981 und 1982 beim Album Somewhere in Afrika von Manfred Mann’s Earth Band als Sängerin mit [1] . Als Solokünsterlin hatte Shona Laing 1987 in Australien und Neuseeland einen Top-10-Hit (Glad I’m not a Kennedy).
19. Apr. 2020 · In 2002, a new double album compilation ‘The Essential Shona Laing’ was released, containing a cross-section of Shona’s superb body of work. Invited by New Zealand artist Mahinarangi Tocker to join a band of musician for her show “the Mongrel In Me” opportunities arose to play at many festivals, including Wellington Festival of the Arts, Womad and Womadelaide.

Having won Best Newcomer, Best Female Vocalist and Performer Of The Year at the 1973 NZ Music Awards and Best Female Vocalist at the 1974 NZ Music Awards, she relocated to the UK, where she recorded a third album that remains unreleased.
