Eton College is a charity for the advancement of education. At its heart sits an independent boys’ boarding school which leads a dynamic range of educational activities and an expanding network of educational partnerships.
The school fee includes tuition, board, lodging, and the cost of most games activities and the majority of educational materials. In addition, boys incur variable extras, e.g. charges for music lessons, optional insurances, boat club membership and school trips.
Eton College was founded in 1440 by Henry VI as “Kynge’s College of Our Ladye of Eton besyde Windesore”. Henry wanted his subjects to have the opportunities of gaining knowledge that he had enjoyed, and he made provision for 70 poor boys, known as King’s Scholars, to be housed and educated at Eton free of charge.
It is crucial that boys enjoy their studies, thrive and have fun, rather than leave feeling burnt out and disengaged. Our academic curriculum is broad. With 28 subjects on offer, including 10 modern and classical languages, every boy has the best opportunity to discover his passion.
The life of the boarding House is at the heart of every boy’s Eton experience. Book an Admissions tour. Boys are thrown together in groups of 10 or 11 as 13-year-olds, and they grow up together over the next five intense and action-packed years. Friendships built up during this period will last for the whole of a person’s life.
We believe boys learn as much, if not more, outside the classroom as they do inside it. The co-curriculum at Eton is designed to build resilience, improve self-discipline, and develop the skills required to work effectively as part of a team.
Eton’s size and scope enables boys to find kindred spirits among their peers, and with adult encouragement and guidance in the development of their interests and talents, many put together a richly contrasting portfolio of individual achievement.
Scholarships and Awards. Scholarships differ from bursaries, which are means-tested awards given to help support families who wouldn’t otherwise be able to afford some or all of the school fees. Our scholarships do not carry any automatic fee remission.
