James „Jimmy“ Dorsey war ein US-amerikanischer Jazzmusiker und Big-Band-Leiter. Er spielte Saxophon und Klarinette; war stilistisch einer der bedeutendsten Altsaxofonisten des Jazz und wurde insbesondere von Charlie Parker und Ornette Coleman immer wieder als stilgebend angegeben.
James Francis Dorsey (February 29, 1904 – June 12, 1957) was an American jazz clarinetist, saxophonist, composer and big band leader. He recorded and composed the jazz and pop standards " I'm Glad There Is You (In This World of Ordinary People)" and "It's The Dreamer In Me".
The Fabulous Dorseys is a 1947 American musical biopic film directed by Alfred E. Green. It tells the story of the brothers Tommy and Jimmy Dorsey, from their boyhood in Shenandoah, Pennsylvania through their rise, their breakup, and their personal reunion. The film was also released under the alternative title The Fighting Dorseys.

The songs were performed by the combined orchestras of Jimmy and Tommy Dorsey. They reunited again in 1947 for the film The Fabulous Dorseys . In 1950, Jimmy disbanded his orchestra and joined Tommy's band on a permanent basis.
