Linda Thompson ( née Pettifer, born 23 August 1947) is an English singer-songwriter. Thompson is one of the most recognised names and voices in the British folk rock movement of the 1970s and 1980s, in collaboration with fellow British folk rock musician, guitarist Richard Thompson, to whom she was married for ten years, and later as a solo artist.

Fashionably Late is in the classic style, which is to say, fairly eclectic, ranging from a kind of mock-traditional song to contemporary acoustic sounds, to a piece with a string orchestra arranged by the same person who did similar duties for the late Nick Drake. Teddy Thompson wrote a fair amount of the material with his mother.
Fashionably Late is a family affair. She co-wrote five of the album’s 10 songs with son Teddy Thompson, who has also toured and recorded with Dad; Teddy also plays guitar and sings, as does his sister Kamila, and, wonder of wonders, Richard himself plays on the opening track.
