Lee Thompson and stars Kenneth More, Lauren Bacall, Herbert Lom, Ursula Jeans, Wilfrid Hyde-White, I. S. Johar. It was distributed by 20th Century Fox and was nominated for 3 BAFTAS in 1960.
Set on the North West Frontier of colonial India in 1905. A British Army Officer, Captain Scott (Kenneth More) is sent to rescue a five year old Indian Prince (Govind Raja Ross) and his American governess, Catherine Wyatt (Lauren Bacall) certain death at the hands of rebel tribesman.
Analysis. North West Frontier begins with Kenneth More’s narrative voice informing the audience that India is ‘a country of many religions’ where ‘men find many reasons for killing each other’. The violence of the colonised is a main theme of the film.
