18. Aug. 2019 · He was born in Sherman, Texas in 1929 this week as Alvis Edgar Owens Jr. and took the name “Buck” from the donkey on the family farm. Owens scored 20 number 1 hits on the country charts with his band The Buckaroos. He pioneered what became known as the Bakersfield sound, kind of a stripped-done, more rock-influenced.
Buck hired Rick on the spot and invited him to the Hee Haw set the next day where his dream became a reality. Rick's first taping was the Hee Haw 10th Anniversary Show taped at the Grand Ole Opry House in Nashville, Tn in October 1978.
