François Gérard was a French painter who worked for Europe’s sovereign families and produced historical and portrait paintings. He was a student of Jacques-Louis David and a court painter under Napoleon I and Louis XVIII. He painted the official portraits of the rulers in Versailles, such as Napoleon I, Louis XVIII, and Charles X.
