Premier sculpteur du roi 1628-1715. Engagé par Fouquet à Vaux-le-Vicomte comme Le Brun, Le Vau et Le Nôtre, Girardon est employé à son tour par Louis XIV à Versailles. Il est avec Coysevox le plus important sculpteur de Versailles tant par l’importance de sa production que par sa qualité.
