Frank Gratkowski Quartet. Mit der Trioformation mit Dieter Manderscheid und Gerry Hemingway habe ich 1995 eine lange ersehnte Idee realisiert, nachdem ich mit beiden Musikern diverse Konzerte in unterschiedlichsten Formationen gegeben habe (u.a. Grubenklang Orchester und Klaus König Orchester).

In the music of the quartet, I am trying to form a synthesis of composition and improvisation where all instruments have equal functions to build a unified whole. Beside several tours in Europe, the Quartet has been invited to the Vanvouver International Jazzfestival and the USA in 2002.
In 2008 the experimental saxophone quartet “Fo[u]r Alto” was formed. He is a co-founder of the Multiple Joy[ce] Orchestra, for which he also composes. In the past few years, he has increasingly collaborated with musicians of the younger generation, currently for example in the quartet The Resonators.
Außerdem spielt Gratkowski in verschiedenen Trio- und Quartett-Besetzungen, u. a. mit Sebastian Gramss, Philip Zoubek, Gerry Hemingway ( Double Blues Crossing ), Dieter Manderscheid, Wilbert de Joode und Paul Lovens.
Nun spielt die Formation unter dem Namen „In Cahoots“ Kompositionen von Frank Gratkowski und wird regelmäßig durch die wunderbare, in NYC lebende Saxophonistin, Ingrid Laubrock zum Quintett erweitert. Das Quintett hatte sein Debut 2023 in Darmstadt.
