Frankie Avalon wuchs als Francis Thomas Avallone in einer musikalischen Familie auf. Schon früh lernte er Trompete und gewann lokale Talentwettbewerbe. Bereits mit neun Jahren hatte er seinen ersten Fernsehauftritt. Zwei Jahre später veröffentlichte er seine ersten beiden Singles mit Trompetensolis und trat der Band "Rocco and the Saints" bei.
