März 2021 · What is agreed is that in 1954 Harold Melvin joined Franklin Peaker, Bernard Williams, Roosevelt Brodie and Jesse Gillis, Jr (collectively once known as the Charlemagnes) and formed his Blue Notes and for reasons never best explained put his name front out even though he wasn’t the lead singer.
The group formerly known as The Charlemagnes took on the name "The Blue Notes" in 1954, with a line-up consisting of lead singer Franklin Peaker, Bernard Williams, Roosevelt Brodie, Jesse Gillis, Jr., and Harold Melvin. [1] The group recorded for a number of labels without success from its inception into the 1960s.

Tenor Franklin Peaker led their ’56 debut single, If You Love Me (Really Love Me). When baritone Roosevelt Brodie was drafted in 1958, tenor Bernard Williams brought Melvin in to replace him. Born June 25, 1939, Harold had been singing with a local outfit, The Charlemagnes.
The original Blue Notes were lead tenor Franklin Peaker, tenors Bernard Williams and Sam Sally, second tenor/ baritone Roosevelt Brodie, and bass Jesse Gillis. 23. Juni 2021 · The following year, 1954, he established a quintet, the Blue Notes gathering together Bernard Williams, Roosevelt Brodie, Jesse Gillis, Jr., and Franklin Peaker. In 1956, the Blue Notes released their first single, “If You Love Me,” for Josie Records.
