1. Feb. 2024 · Kurzbiographie. Franz Brentano war seit 1872 Professor der Philosophie in Würzburg. Er verzichtete 1873 aus Protest gegen das päpstliche Unfehlbarkeitsdogma auf die Ausübung seines Priesteramtes und wurde 1874 nach Wien berufen, wo er bis 1880 als Professor, danach bis 1895 als Privatdozent Philosophie lehrte.
Franz Brentano was a German philosopher generally regarded as the founder of act psychology, or intentionalism, which concerns itself with the acts of the mind rather than with the contents of the mind. He was a nephew of the poet Clemens Brentano. Brentano was ordained a Roman Catholic priest.
