Joiner is the founder of Black Ekphrastic, a website that seeks to highlight the work of Black creative writers and their engagements with various art forms. He is also the cofounder of The Center for Poetic Thought in Washington, D.C., and served as the poet laureate of the Town of Carrboro, North Carolina, in 2023.
Fred Joiner is a poet and curator based in Chapel Hill, NC. He is 2019 Academy of American Poets Laureate Fellow . His work has appeared in Callaloo, Gargoyle, and Fledgling Rag, among other publications. Fred has read his work nationally and internationally.
