Freddie Stone is the co-founder and lead guitarist and vocalist for the legendary funk band, Sly and the Family Stone. Frederick Jerome Stewart, aka Freddie Stone, was born June 5, 1947 in Vallejo, California. He grew up in Vallejo and eventually moved to San Francisco in his late teens.
In 1966, Sly Stone formed a band called Sly & the Stoners, which included acquaintance Cynthia Robinson on trumpet. Around the same time, Freddie founded a band called Freddie & the Stone Souls, which included Gregg Errico on drums, and Ronnie Crawford on saxophone.
