Donald Eugene „Don“ Cherry (* 18. November 1936 in Oklahoma City; † 19. Oktober 1995 in Málaga) war ein US-amerikanischer Free-Jazz - Musiker und ist vor allem durch sein Spiel auf der Taschentrompete bekannt geworden.

Donald Eugene Cherry (November 18, 1936 – October 19, 1995) was an American jazz trumpeter. Beginning in the late 1950s, he had a long tenure performing in the bands of saxophonist Ornette Coleman, including on the pioneering free jazz albums The Shape of Jazz to Come (1959) and Free Jazz: A Collective Improvisation (1960).
11. Sept. 2023 · Just for information that the Swiss label Hat-Hut re-issues a lot of free jazz iconic albums under the "ezz-thetics" label that they relaunched in tribute to George Russell. In the last years they re-issued two of Don Cherry's earlier and equally iconic work.

Don Cherry plays trumpet, flutes and berimbau, Dollar Brand piano, and Carlos Ward alto sax. All three men sing too ... and a lot.
