Günther von Kluge was a German field marshal who commanded the 4th Army during the invasions of Poland and France, and Army Group Centre during Operation Barbarossa. He was injured in a car accident and after recuperation, appointed as Supreme Commander West in occupied France. Realising the war in the West was lost, he committed suicide following the failed 20 July plot in 1944.

Biography. Hans Günther von Kluge was born on October 30, 1882 in Poznan and belongs to a Prussian family of military tradition. Officer in the artillery, it is attached to the staffs during the First World War. In 1916, he took part in the Battle of Verdun before becoming Brigadier General ( Generalmajor) in 1933 and Lieutenant General in 1936.
