It was commissioned by the public broadcasting organization ZDF, produced by the UFA subsidiary TeamWorx, and first aired in Germany and Austria in March 2013.

Done in the style of Band of Brothers, but with German soldiers. And extra grimness, since it's primarily set on the Eastern Front, and The Holocaust has much plot significance.
