Bill Pinkney died the evening of July 4, 2007 from a heart attack while in Florida to perform with The Drifters at the annual Daytona Beach 4th of July celebration, “ Red, White & Boom ”. The many members of the Drifters all kept the quintessential R&B and soul roots of the music, and lead vocalists Clyde McPhatter, Ben E. King and Johnny Moore all contributed to the gospel and R&B fusion that the Drifters are known for.
The second effort included Gerhart Thrasher, Andrew Thrasher (both formerly of the gospel group the "Thrasher Wonders"), Bill Pinkney, Willie Ferbee, and Walter Adams on guitar. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inducted The Drifters in 1988.
