Biografie. Giotto di Bondone wurde wahrscheinlich im Jahr 1267 im toskanischen Vespignano bei Florenz als Sohn eines Kleinbauern geboren. Nach einer Legende soll er bereits als Zehnjähriger von dem Florentiner Maler und Mosaikkünstler "Cimabue" Cenni di Peppo (ca. 1240; † ca. 1302), der ihn dann auch ausbildete, entdeckt worden sein.
