Gwen Raverat was a serious and rebellious woman artist who became the regular art critic for Time and Tide magazine in the 1920s and 1930s. She was influenced by the Neo-Pagans, the Darwinian tradition and the wood engraving of Stanley Spencer. She married the French mathematician Jacques Raverat and had a long and happy marriage with him. She died in 1957.
