The ghost of Hamlet's father is a character from William Shakespeare 's play Hamlet. In the stage directions, he is referred to as " Ghost ". His name is also Hamlet, and he is referred to as King Hamlet to distinguish him from the Prince, his son and the protagonist of the story.

The Ghost impresses on Hamlet the gravity of what happened to him and entreats Hamlet to seek revenge for his death. After Hamlet agrees, he plainly tells Hamlet that Claudius poisoned him to take his wife and throne.
When the ghost tells Hamlet that he was murdered by Claudius and charges the prince with seeking vengeance, Hamlet takes the ghost’s words to heart. Though Horatio, Marcellus, Barnardo, and Francisco can all see the ghost, it’s possible that the spirit can choose to whom it is visible.
2. Juni 2020 · Act 1, scene 5. The Ghost tells Hamlet a tale of horror. Saying that he is the spirit of Hamlet’s father, he demands that Hamlet avenge King Hamlet’s murder at the hands of Claudius. Hamlet, horrified, vows to “remember” and swears his friends to secrecy about what they have seen. Enter Ghost and Hamlet.
The ghost exhorts Hamlet to seek revenge, telling him that Claudius has corrupted Denmark and corrupted Gertrude, having taken her from the pure love of her first marriage and seduced her in the foul lust of their incestuous union.
