8. März 2005 · Hans Albrecht Bethe kam am 2. Juli 1906 im elsässischen Straßburg zur Welt. Nach seinem Physikstudium in Frankfurt und München und Promotion (1928) bei Arnold Sommerfeld begann er als Assistent in Frankfurt und Stuttgart und wurde 1930 in München zum Privatdozenten ernannt. 1932 folgte er einem Ruf zur Universität Tübingen.

Hans Bethe wurde 1967 mit dem Nobelpreis für Physik geehrt. Die Arbeiten, die zu dieser Ehrung führten, gehen auf das Jahr 1938 zurück. Zu dieser Zeit hatte Bethe in sehr kurzer Zeit den Nachweis erbracht, dass Fixsterne ihre Energie aus der Kernfusion von Wasserstoffatomen beziehen.
