He and his band appeared in three Hollywood films: Private Buckaroo and Springtime in the Rockies (both 1942), and Two Girls and a Sailor (1944). James toured with the band into the 1980s, and as of July 2018 the Harry James Orchestra, led by Fred Radke, was still very much in business.

Trumpeter, Bandleader, Composer, Film Actor. (1916 - 1983) Suave, sophisticated bandleader Harry James grew up in the circus. His father was a bandleader; his mother, a trapeze artist and trick horse rider; and his older sister, an aerialist. Born on March 15, 1916, Harry soon showed talent for the drums and became a feature act at age three.
