Henri Ziegler was a war hero and resistance fighter who faced repeated claims that a twin-engine passenger jet could not be operated safely over long distances. He led the design of the A300B, the scaled-down version of the A300, and ensured its launch in 1969. He also faced repeated threats from the French government and the British government to stop funding the Airbus programme.
