Holgate School was a state school in Barnsley, South Yorkshire, England. It was closed in 2012, when it was merged with The Kingstone School to form Horizon Community College. After Holgate closed, it was demolished and the site was turned into a car park for Horizon Community College .

Ian Harley, 73, of Cinder Hills Way, Dodworth, began conducting research in 2019 into former pupils from Holgate Grammar School who lost their lives serving in World War Two.

10. Nov. 2023 · ALMOST 75 years after its original unveiling the memorial board commemorating Holgate Grammar School pupils who lost their lives in World War Two has been rededicated. The board, which has found a new home at Shaw Lane Sports Club, was originally placed in the old grammar school back in 1948.

Save the date: The next Remembrance Service will be held at Shaw Lane Sports Club on Thursday 7th November 2024 at 10.30am. Service of Remembrance and re-dedication of the World War II memorial board.
Holgate Grammar School. The old school was founded by Thomas Keresforth in 1660 and was situated opposite St Mary's Church on Church Street in Barnsley. In 1887 the Grammar School founded by Archbishop Holgate in the 16th Century at Hemsworth was combined with the Barnsley school.
