The Holy Mackerel was an American psychedelic pop band formed in Los Angeles, California, in 1968. Created mainly as a studio venture to capitalize on Paul Williams' early success as a songwriter, the group recorded one self-titled studio album in the same year.

11. Feb. 2022 · According to The Guardian, that's also how "holy mackerel" most likely came into existence, as it was first used in the early 19th century as a supposedly less blasphemous alternative to "Holy Mary," "holy mother of God," or "holy Madonna" — or "holy Moses," as some have theorized.
Highball with the Devil is a studio album by Les Claypool and the Holy Mackerel, released in 1996. "Les Claypool and the Holy Mackerel" is Claypool's first solo effort. In addition to his usual bass guitar and vocals, he also plays most of the drums and some guitar. He also self produced and engineered the album at his own studio, "Rancho Relaxo".
