Hugh Culling Eardley Childers (25 June 1827 – 29 January 1896) was a British Liberal statesman of the nineteenth century. He is perhaps best known for his reform efforts at the Admiralty and the War Office.

Contents. Childers Reforms. The Childers Reforms of 1881 reorganised the infantry regiments of the British Army. The reforms were done by Secretary of State for War Hugh Childers during 1881, and were a continuation of the earlier Cardwell Reforms .

He was a prominent member of the British Liberal Party and a fervent supporter of William Ewart Gladstone , in whose first three ministries he held high offices.
