Within weeks of his death, Love Will Tear Us Apart, one of Joy Division’s last recordings, reached Number 13 in the chart.
Ian Curtis, lost in his own world, marches back and forth like a demented Wehrmacht sentry, rhythmically clutching at imaginary ghosts. Peer closer, and his eyes are glazed and haunted. It’s as if he’s seeing something we can’t. Maybe he was. On that tour, he was suffering on-stage epileptic seizures virtually every night.
