15. Juni 2020 · "It's Your Thing" is a funk single by The Isley Brothers. Released in 1969, the anthem was an artistic response to Motown chief Berry Gordy's demanding hold on his artists after the Isleys left the label in late 1968.
A song about a man's sexual freedom and a woman's independence, written by the group themselves and released in 1969. The lyrics are ambiguous and controversial, with phrases like "It's your thing" and "I can't tell you who to sock it to". The song won a Grammy for best R&B vocal by group or duo in 1970.
