It was established in 1905 as Bengal Technical Institute and was converted into Jadavpur University in 1955. Founded in 1955, Jadavpur University is a public research institution situated in the urban area of Kolkata – formerly Calcutta – in West Bengal. Its roots date back to 1906 when the National Council of Education was formed in the wake of the local Swadeshi Movement, a popular uprising against Britain’s plans to partition the land.
