James Arthur Payne (1894 – June 12, 1968) was an American fly rod maker, designer and business owner. He was born in Highland Mills, New York. The son of E.F. Payne and the owner of the E.F. Payne Rod Company, Payne designed and built bamboo fly rods for almost 70 years. His rods are prized by fishermen and collectors.
The band formed in 1988 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and consists of Kevin Griffin (vocals and guitar), Tom Drummond (bass guitar), Michael Jerome (drums), and James Arthur Payne Jr. (guitar, keyboards). The band has released nine studio albums, most recently 2024's Super Magick.

Visitation will be Friday, July 28, 2023 from 10 am until his service at 12pm, at The Runge Mortuary. A private burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery.
