James Hamilton, 2. Earl of Arran (* 1515/16; † 22. Januar 1575 in Hamilton, Lanarkshire) war ein schottischer Adliger, der 1529 das Earldom of Arran als sein Erbe übernahm. In den Jahren 1543 bis 1554 führte er für die minderjährige Königin Maria Stuart die Regentschaft.

James Hamilton, 1st Duke of Châtellerault, 2nd Earl of Arran (c. 1519 – 22 January 1575), was a Scottish nobleman and head of the House of Hamilton. A great-grandson of King James II of Scotland, he was heir presumptive to the Scottish throne (1536–1540, 1541–1542, 1542–1566 and 1567–1575).

On the outbreak of the Scottish Reformation he joined the Lords of the Congregation (1559) and became the acknowledged leader of the Protestant party.

James Hamilton, 1st Earl of Arran and 2nd Lord Hamilton (c. 1475 – 1529) was a Scottish nobleman, naval commander and first cousin of James IV of Scotland. He also served as the 9th Lord High Admiral of Scotland. Early life. He was the elder of two sons of James Hamilton, 1st Lord Hamilton, and his wife, Mary Stewart, Countess of Arran.
Der Titel wurde in der Peerage of Scotland erstmals am 26. April 1467 an Thomas Boyd verliehen, wurde ihm jedoch bereits 1469 wegen Hochverrats aberkannt und erlosch. In zweiter Verleihung wurde der Titel am 11. August 1503 für James Hamilton, 2. Lord Hamilton neu geschaffen.
