Wayne Shorter (August 25, 1933 – March 2, 2023) was an American jazz saxophonist, composer and bandleader. Shorter came to mainstream prominence in 1959 upon joining Art Blakey 's Jazz Messengers , for whom he eventually became the primary composer.

Wayne Shorter (* 25. August 1933 in Newark, New Jersey; † 2. März 2023 in Los Angeles) [1] war ein US-amerikanischer Jazz - Saxophonist und - Komponist. Mit John Coltrane und Sonny Rollins gehörte er zur „vordersten Linie“ der Saxophonisten im Modern Jazz.
The New York Times described Shorter in 2008 as “probably jazz’s greatest living small-group composer and a contender for greatest living improviser”. Wayne Shorter, called a genius, a trailblazer, a visionary, was born on August 25, 1933 in Newark, New Jersey. He studied at New York University and served in the U.S. Army.
