Jazze Pha's birth name was Phalon Alexander. He grew up in Memphis, Tennessee. Pha's father, James Alexander, was the bassist of the Bar -Kays, one of the most influential groups of the Memphis soul scene in the 1960s. He may well have been named after Phalon Jones, who, along with most of the other Bar-Kays, was killed in a 1967 plane crash.
