She deserved more than 2 nominations in her career but it is still better than most actresses get. Home Before Dark was another Jean Simmons performance that should have gained her a nomination.

Juli 2024 · No one could call THE THORNBIRDS great art, but it's melodramatic, even operatic, in a pretty entertaining way, especially with some wonderful actors on board ("Missy," of course, but also Richard Kiley, Jean Simmons, Christopher Plummer, even DL fave Mare Winningham and WEHT Philip Anglim).

One can totally believe she is a murdering witch, but at the same time one can also feel very sorry for her. I think that probably is the best, exactly for the reasons you describe.
