Jean Charles Leonard Simonde de Sismondi (May 19, 1773 - June 25, 1842) was a Swiss historian and economist. His monumental History of the Italian Republics in the Middle Ages provided inspiration to Italian leaders. His economic treatises initially supported Adam Smith and the laissez-faire approach to trade.
