Jim Alcivar is an American keyboard and synthesizer player and sound engineer. He is most noted for his connection to guitarist Ronnie Montrose and appearing in his bands Montrose [1] and Gamma [2] and on his first solo album Open Fire. His father is composer, arranger and producer Bob Alcivar.

Keyboardist Jim Alcivar was replaced by Mitchell Froom and Gamma 3 was released in 1982. [1] The album reached No. 72 and produced the single "Right the First Time" which reached No. 77 on the Billboard Hot 100 and No. 10 on Billboard ' s Album Rock Tracks chart.

Jim Alcivar joined Montrose as the keyboardist in 1975, adding a new dimension to the band’s sound on their later albums Warner Bros. Presents Montrose! and Jump on It. His keyboard work provided a richer, more layered sound to the band’s arrangements, particularly on tracks like “Matriarch.”

It is the second Montrose album to feature singer Bob James and keyboardist Jim Alcivar, and features bassist Randy Jo Hobbs on three songs. The remainder of the bass parts were supplied by Jim Alcivar via the keyboard and there was no bassist on the Jump on It tour.
