16. Sept. 2022 · Jim Post, a singer-songwriter who was a fixture on the folk music scene in Chicago for more than 50 years, died on September 14, 2022 following a long illness. Post, who billed himself as a ‘modest minstrel and entertainer, ‘ was born in Houston ,Texas on October 28, 1939 and raised in the deep woods of southeast Texas.

In 1968 his pop song "Reach out of the Darkness" charted on the Billboard Hot 100 for 14 weeks, peaking at number 10. He had previously performed with the folk group The Rum Runners.
In the past 30 years, among other things, Post has recorded more than 20 CDs; written and performed two acclaimed one-man shows; written several children’s books with Janet, his wife of 17 years (who also plays cello and piano for “The Laughing River”); and helped to create and promote a successful, musical, phoneme-based reading program for children with developmental difficulties.
